4Great for the price and works with multiple lines!

I did a lot of research before purchasing this model with the handset lifter. I needed a cordless headset for my secretary that was comfortable, easy to use, and had good sound quality. The AT&T TL7611 met or exceeded all those requirements for us. The range is also good. My secretary uses the over the ear holder and says it is so comfortable that she can wear it all day and even forgets that she is wearing it. She suffers from arthritis and was worried that the buttons would be too hard to manage. Again, no problems. The main reason I went with this model over other models (like the Plantronics) is that this is the only one I could find on the market that worked with multiple lines. That is a huge issue for us and one of the major selling points of this model.

Now, why only 4 stars with such a glowing review? The Handset Lifter. The lifter is awkward to set up and did not work very well out of the box. The answer was a strategically placed strip of tape and bingo, it works. However, it took more of my time than it should have and was enough of a pain to dock it a star. I would absolutely recommend this cordless headset, especially if multiple lines is an issue. No regrets with this purchase. Should you purchase this item, save yourself some time and grab a piece of tape.

I was really looking forward to using this with the ATT 993 2-line phone. I also purchased the remote dial pad. Shipping and delivery were wonderful. Performance, not so much!

The first issue I had was with the mounting the lifter to the 933 phone. The area over the speaker is curved and the lifter would not stay positioned. The self stick tapes simply do not have enough holding power. After several days of the lifter pushing itself off the phone I finally used some sticky-tack, like you use for posters, to secure it to the phone. That is working.

Cable management for this setup is a nightmare. The cables are stiff and way too long. I have a real rats nest behind the phone and the slightest movement of the headset base or the phone puts everything out of whack.

I can live with the above problems but the killer is the alert tone the headset produces to let you know that you have an incoming call. The headset relies on a MICROPHONE to detect incoming calls. You have a level control on the side of the lifter to adjust the sensitivity of the microphone. Once you have it set, any moderate noise sets off the alert. Say for example a radio or TV turned up loud enough to hear. Or better yet, a power screwdriver as someone attempts to take a cover off of a computer! About a third of the alerts I get are false. I now have the sensitivity turned down all the way but I still get a large number of false alerts. But I could live with this problem also.....

After two or three days of use I noticed that I was not receiving the alert tone for any reason. When a call was incoming, The lifter light blinked to show that it was sending an alert to the headset. The headset light blinked to show it was receiving it. But no tone. I called ATT and after they had me perform the same power down routine several times, unplug power from base and remove battery from the headset, they declared it was defective. Since it had been less than 30 days since purchase I was directed to have Amazon replace it. Amazon's replacement procedure is outstanding and I had a replacement headset in two days. Replaced the old headset and presto I had an alert tone again. Sometime in the next three days the alert tone had disappeared again. Another call to ATT and another replacement from Amazon. Amazon again responded immediately and I had my replacement in two days. Replaced the "defective" headset and bingo - tone. Went to use the remote dial pad and it wouldn't connect to the headset. Removed the battery and tried to unregister the dial pad - no joy! Called ATT! Apparently you have to unregister the dial pad with the original headset before you can re-register it with a new base! Are you kidding me? There was no way to do this without the original base! What if the base had been permanently damaged and you couldn't access it? Or you had ALREADY SENT IT BACK? Now I have to get the dial pad replaced. Again, Amazon stepped up to the plate and I had a new pad within days. Registered the dial pad with the headset and Kazaaam! It all worked. For a few days. No alert tone. Call ATT. The want we to get it replaced by Amazon, since it was less than 30 days old. I said no, that ATT should replace it since it was obviously defective and Amazon had already replaced two units. ATT agreed and sent me a replacement headset. De-registered the dial pad and packed up the old headset. Installed the new headset, re-registered the dial pad, and everything is working again. For now - I am not a believer in this setup! I am waiting for it to break again. It's been 6 days since I replaced it and everything is still working.

The only other complaint I have is that the behind the ear headset is very uncomfortable. The over the head doesn't stay in place - could be because I have a pointy head! The behind the head rig works well but after several hours starts to hurt from the pressure on the non-headset side.

There are very few options for someone who wants a headset to use with multiple lines. I also use a Bluetooth gateway box so my cell phone is connected into the system. When it is working it is great. All 3 lines on 1 headset. But I have spent way too many hours on getting this put together. I was amazed that neither Jabra or Plantronics had plug and play multi-line cordless headsets (are you listening?).... This headset is not made or designed by ATT, and barely supported by them! It is manufactured by Vtech who was unwilling to answer any questions about the loss of alert tone or the issue with dial pad registration.

5Really Good Gear-update

Works great. Clear, super Dect 6.0 range (I've even used it walking out to my car) and it doesn't count toward my maximum number of wireless phones. I use the over the head band and it is so comfortable that I have been known to be looking for the headset when it was on my head. Sticky tape on the lifter is puny, but that and ease of adjusting lifter location is easily fixed with some Velcro which I find almost as important to keep around as duct tape.

I still like this gear, but not as much as when I wrote the above because I found that I have some semi-dead spaces in the far reaches of the house. The headset works well enough, but the handsets are a bit iffy. I still like the headset, but it is not that durable. I have had to replace it. AT&T does not have a replacement headset without the stand. Luckily, and no thanks to AT&T, I found a cheaper stand with the identical headset.

This system would be much improved by a bit more power or some kind of wired or wireless repeater similar to what can be done with WiFi. Intervening walls and even more mirrors really do diminish signal strength. AT&T has a pricier model with wired repeaters and accepts more phone lines, but it does not support as many remotes which strikes me as strange. I mean why would you build a system that offers much better areal coverage and more incoming phone lines without also supporting more handsets. Maybe someday.
